The Easy Slate System is a patented roofing solution designed to enable the use of slate on low pitch roof constructions while maintaining weather resistance. The system is intended for use with natural and fibre cement slates where conventional slate detailing would not provide adequate protection against water ingress at reduced pitches.
Easy Slate allows natural slates to be installed at roof pitches as low as 12° and fibre cement slates at pitches down to 10°. This enables slate roofing to be specified on projects where ridge heights or roof geometry are restricted, including domestic, commercial, and heritage buildings subject to planning limitations.
At low roof pitches, water ingress can occur due to capillary action at the perpendicular (perp) joints between slates. The Easy Slate System addresses this by sealing the perp joint, preventing water from tracking between adjacent slates and entering the roof structure. This improves weather resistance in conditions where standard slate installations may be unsuitable.
The Easy Slate System has been tested at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to assess its suitability for low pitch slate roofing applications. Testing confirms its performance in resisting water ingress, supporting its use as a reliable solution for reduced-pitch slate roofs when installed in accordance with manufacturer guidance.
